At Biscuit Belly, we believe food is more than fuel — it’s comfort, connection, and sometimes even healing. Recently, we had the honor of joining forces with our friends at Oxmoor Auto Group and the Kentucky Humane Society for a truly special event at The Healing Place men’s campus in Downtown Louisville.
The Healing Place is doing incredible work in our community. Founded in 1989 as a homeless shelter and medical clinic, it has grown into a nationally recognized recovery program for men and women battling addiction. Their peer-led model is life-changing — and every day they provide food, clothing, shelter, and support at no cost to nearly 1,000 clients. These men are on a difficult but inspiring journey of recovery, growth, and resiliency.
And on this day, we got to add a little extra joy to that journey.
Nothing brings more healing than a snuggle with a puppy and a warm cup of coffee with a breakfast treat. We brought along two adorable puppies, plenty of coffee, Loaded Tots, and of course, our famous Bonuts. While waiting in line, the men made toys for the pups — and then they each had time to play, pet, and soak up the unconditional love only a dog can give.
Watching the joy in that room was something special. Grown men, who carry so much on their shoulders, turned into puddles of mush the moment those puppies came near (yeah, I saw you 😉). There was laughter, playfulness, and even a few happy tears. For just a moment, the weight of the world lifted — replaced by wagging tails, coffee steam, and cinnamon and sugar covered smiles.
We are so grateful to Oxmoor Auto Group and the Kentucky Humane Society for partnering with us in this effort. It takes a community of hearts and hands to walk alongside those in recovery, and it was a privilege to stand together in support of the incredible work being done at The Healing Place.
If you don’t know much about The Healing Place, we encourage you to take a look at the life-changing work they do: The Healing Place.
Partnerships like this remind us that healing can be found in the simplest of things — a kind word, a wagging tail, a hot breakfast. And we’re so proud Biscuit Belly could be a small part of such a beautiful day.
